The short answer.

Maslinica Beach is the longest Blue Flag pebble beach in Rabac Bay — 500 m of fine-to-medium pebble running along the west side of the bay, 1 nm from Fru Fru Boats' harbour pontoon at Obala Maršala Tita 59. Reached in five minutes at cruise. Full Rabac infrastructure (bars, loungers, water-sports rental, restaurants) sits behind the pebbles; the boat lets you skip every queue of it. The closest cove is 15 minutes; this beach is closer still. Sveti Andrija is a separate walkable-from-harbour Blue Flag beach, not the same destination.

How you arrive.

You cast off from Rabac harbour, swing the bow west, and within five minutes the longest pebble beach in the bay opens on your left — 500 metres of Blue Flag pebbles, calm turquoise water, the Kvarner islands as low silhouettes on the horizon. The skipper drops anchor in 3–5 m of sandy bottom about twenty-five metres off the shore at the protected south end, where the bay is calm enough that the small no-licence boats can also nose up to the pebbles. You swim ashore, or eat lunch on board, or both. This is the stay-near-home day — the trip for guests who took the boat for the swim itself, not for the journey.

What it feels like.

  • The bay between Maslinica and Rabac is sheltered — turquoise, almost no chop
  • Cres and Lošinj visible on a clear day, low silhouettes on the horizon
  • 500 metres long means even peak season you find your patch
  • Full Rabac infrastructure if you want it (bars, water sports, loungers) — and the boat option to skip all of it
  • Crystal clear water at the protected south end, sand-to-pebble grain, no surprises underfoot

Practical details.

  • From Rabac harbour: 1 nm · ~5 minutes at cruise
  • Trip length: half-day works; 2–3 hours minimum
  • Award: Blue Flag certified
  • Beach length: 500 m, pebble (fine + medium)
  • Facilities: full — bars, water sports, loungers, restaurants. Use them or skip them.

Why it works by boat.

Maslinica is the boat-as-shortcut trip. By land the beach is reachable, but at 11 am in August you fight for a parking space and a patch of pebbles. By boat, the order changes: the shortcut starts at the pontoon. The pontoon, in turn, puts you at the south anchorage in five minutes flat. That south anchorage is the same one Rabac locals row to from the small concrete piers — the secluded beach ideal to access by boat that the guidebook copy can't sell because the guidebook can't include the boat. You arrive at nine, anchor at the quiet end, swim, eat on the boat, and leave when it gets busy. The cruise back is five minutes — the towel still wet.

the walkable-from-harbour beach next door

Sveti Andrija — the third small Blue Flag beach in Rabac — sits at the south end of the promenade next to the 15th-century church, walkable from the harbour, not a boat destination. Guests who want a three-beach Rabac day usually pair Maslinica + Girandella by boat with a Sveti Andrija stroll-and-swim on foot. Not the same beach. Not the same kind of day. Sveti Andrija the Rabac beach is also not the same as Sveti Ivan below Lubenice on Cres island — that one is a full-day boat run, 65 minutes each way.

About this trip.

Can I land the boat on the beach?

The protected south end accepts small-boat landings (Dalmatinka / Remija) in calm conditions. Larger speedboats anchor offshore and swim in. We brief at handover.

Are there facilities?

Yes — Maslinica is a full Rabac beach with bars, loungers, water sports rental, restaurants. Bring nothing or bring everything; both work.

Can we combine Maslinica with another beach?

Yes — the most common day is Maslinica + Girandella by boat, plus a South Rabac snorkel loop stop for the reef-water swim. (Sveti Andrija — the third small Blue Flag beach — is right next to Rabac harbour on foot, so guests usually combine it with a town stroll rather than a boat run.)

Is the boat safe to leave anchored while we go in?

The skipper stays with the boat. Even if you've never anchored before, self-drive guests get a twenty-minute briefing on anchoring, depth, what to look for. The Rabac inshore is sheltered enough that anchored boats don't drift.
